jezebel of sidon

lacking imagination, the tourism industry (like all industry, damming imagination to flow into the factories of money) is fiscally and ecologically wasteful, sending millions in planes, jeeps, trains, and boats around the world and back and around again to experience space and avoid themselves.

i have revolutionized the travel industry with my imagination, saving tens of thousands of dollars and a few extra minutes or seconds of the life of my species.

what i do is walk through the city, through spaces where years were invested in me.

i walk through the financial district and see the strange businesspeople going about their business – the executives in expensive suits, the junior people in cheap suits, everyone though looking pretty much the same, and smelling quite detestable.

i walk through the campuses of the universities and see the students looking like uap rejects from planet flesh, the faculty like value village salespeople, everyone thick and dense like knowledge that’s been boiling on a stove for three millennia which no one with any brain would want to drink.

i used to be these people, i think. and they seem to me like savages, far more alien than montaigne’s cannibals. space, time, history, myth are transformed. i’m in spaces no money could buy, no spaceship could take me to. and this with no drugs.

weird is here. we live among it. just go out the door. your next holiday is there. or stay inside with those others who live with you. that’s a rainforest, a desert, the burj khalifa, a bangkok brothel, an antarctic expedition. everyone you hang out with now is an exotic horror. so are you. take a cruise ship to yourself.

this is mystotourism. costs almost nothing. few carbon emissions. nothing to sell, nothing to buy, nowhere to go. it’s the imagination baby. it’s the future. let’s go.
